This war was fought between America and Great Britain which started in the year 1812. It was in this war, that the American expansionist attempts to the north would be halted. The war was a huge loss to the American Indians who sought to fight and keep them on their land but would loose and their land was taken (Housman, Reginald). It is ironic, however, that this war ended in a stalemate having not benefited the parties that were taking in it. America did not occupy Canada as it hoped and neither did Great Britain, the colonial master of Canada acquire America.

Before the war of 1812, the British were engaged in the Napoleonic war against Napoleon of France in the Napoleonic wars. America sought to be neutral on the issue and its involvement at the time became only through trade. The British, however, instituted blockades and trade restrictions preventing American sailors from trading with the enemies of British i.e. French. This was an unfair move and was deemed to be an attack on the sovereignty of America and international laws(Reginald, 2017). The British would also force the American ships to first dock in the British ports and get a license before trading with any European nation. They made the American sailors join the British army, a move met with a lot of criticism and protest by the Americans against the British. The British were impressing the sailors were looking for British nationals who were avoiding the army by boarding American ships.

The War of 1812 pitted the young United States in a war against Great Britain, from whom the American colonies had won their independence in 1783. Press gangs, though ostensibly targeting British subjects for naval service, also swept up 6,000 to 9,000 Americans into the crews of British ships between 1803 and 1812. Some scientists gaze into outer space to look for answers. Some scientists seek answers in the depths of the sea. When Georg Steinhauser wanted answers, he looked within himself. Well, he looked within his bellybutton to be exact. The Austrian chemist spent three years researching the contents of his navel and the navels of others. He has solved one of life's greatest mysteries. We now know exactly what bellybutton lint contains!
Steinhauser presented his findings in the online version of the journal Medical Hypotheses. The Vienna University scientist analyzed over 500 samples to determine the exact makeup of the lint. As suspected, most of the lint was made up of cotton from clothing. The fabric pieces are not alone, though. Steinhauser found that the average bellybutton also contained pieces of dead skin, sweat, dust, and fat.
Steinhauser's notes also explained how lint accumulates. Stomach hairs tend to grow in a circular pattern around the bellybutton. The hairs act like small hooks, capturing and holding contents within. Shaving stomach hair can lead to a lint-free bellybutton, but don't act too hastily. Although the contents of your navel may be a nuisance, research suggests that lint has a purpose. It is nature's way of protecting your bellybutton from germs and unwanted objects.

Mucus, however, plays a very important role in defense of our bodies and our health. In fact, it's high time mucus got a lot more respect.
First, there are some amazing facts about mucus that are worthy of respect. Humans produce about a liter of mucus every day, whether they are sick or not. Bony fish and some invertebrates (snails or slugs) also have mucus cells on the outside of their body. This external mucus creates a protective coating that prevents predators' toxins from doing harm. Humans produce mucus to protect our stomachs, our lungs, and several other systems.
We tend to not like mucus because it is a considered a symptom or sign that something is wrong. We usually only see it when we are sick, and so we tend to dislike it. According to Michael M. Johns, III, MD, however, "mucus is incredibly important for our bodies." Johns, an assistant professor at Emory University, calls mucus "the oil in the engine" of our bodies. Without mucus, our engines, or bodies, would freeze up and stop working properly.
Furthermore, mucus is not just the nasty gunk you see when you are sick. It lines the tissues in your mouth, your nose, throat, and lungs. It also is crucial in protecting your digestive system. Mucus puts a protective coating over the surfaces of these tissues, keeping them moist. Most of the time we don't notice mucus is making our lives better. It does its job quietly, making everything run smoothly, keeping our inner tissues soft and flexible enough to fight off invaders.
Occasionally, though our mucus-making membranes go into overdrive. If you eat a hot pepper, your mucus membranes in your mouth and throat start producing extra mucus to protect you. If you come into contact with pollen, you may get a runny nose and start sneezing and coughing. When these things happen, your mucus systems start making more fluids to wash away the irritating particles. Mucus also has some antibodies that increase our ability to fight off bacteria and viruses.
It's hard to appreciate what is essentially slime, but we have mucus for some very good reasons. It helps to keep us healthy and lets us know when our bodies are under attack. We would be wise to respect what our bodies do to keep us safe. So the next time you find yourself reaching for a tissue, remember mucus is your friend and ally.
