In 1868, what was the most important reason to include the equal protection clause in the Fourteenth Amendment? Women's rights activists wanted equal protection. African Americans were not protected under the law. Southern whites were not protected under the law. Immigrants wanted equal protection.

Answers

Answer:

African Americans were not protected under the law.

Explanation:

The Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution gives provision for the equal rights of all citizens of the United States of America. This Amendment addresses the issues related to the rights of the citizens and also that of equal protection under the law.

This Amendment states that "All persons born or naturalized in the United States,[. . .] are citizens of the United States" and agrees to provide the right to "life, liberty, or property". Moreover, it also agrees to provide "equal protection of the laws" which meant that every citizen is to be given a fair chance, irrespective of their race or religion, or background. This is important because the African-American citizens were discriminated against despite the abolition of slavery. So, this law makes it easy for them to be deemed equals by others.

Thus, the most important reason for the Fourteenth Amendment of 1868 was to give equal protection for the African-Americans.

It was important that the Equal Protection clause be included because African Americans were not protected under the law.

The Fourteenth Amendment:

Assured that American citizens would be equally protected Was passed mainly to protect African Americans

The Thirteenth Amendment had abolished slavery and allowed for African Americans to be citizens but they were still discriminated against. The 14th Amendment was therefore passed to ensure their protection.

In conclusion, the 14th Amendment was passed to protect African Americans.

Which form of government is best?
The president of your society used to be very effective – he defended the nation against an attack from a foreign army, he was able to get different political parties to agree on things, and he was elected twice. But two years before the end of his term as president he messed up – he was caught stealing money from the government and using it to buy houses and then sell them. Many people want him to be removed from power, but others believe that he is still a good president and deserves to finish his term, but be fined a huge amount of money as punishment for what he did. Which form of government would be the best to have in this situation? Why?

Answers

Answer:

In this scenario, a representative democracy would be best.

Explanation:

In this situation where the head of state has been engaging in corruption it would be good to have a representative democracy or what is sometimes called indirect democracy.  In this kind of government people vote for their leaders and they are charged with representing them.  The laws in society are therefore representative of the people and the representatives can vote on whether to remove the leader ahead of his term or whether some other sanction is appropriate. There are checks and balances in this kind of system that assures the executive does not gain too much power.  It is also unlikely this leader will be voted in for a third term given his corrupt practices.

How is the president a 'unifying force' in our highly dispersed political system?

Answers

Answer:The role of the president has grown from that of a largely honorary officer to a powerful leader in national and international affairs. He is the single, unifying force in a political system in which power is highly dispersed.

STATE OF THE WORLD’S INDIGENOUS PEOPLES

Foreword to the State of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

By Mr. Sha Zukang, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs

Indigenous peoples are custodians of some of the most biologically diverse territories in the world. They are also

responsible for a great deal of the world’s linguistic and cultural diversity, and their traditional knowledge has

been and continues to be an invaluable resource that benefits all of mankind.

Yet, indigenous peoples continue to suffer discrimination, marginalization, extreme poverty and conflict. Some

are being dispossessed of their traditional lands as their livelihoods are being undermined. Meanwhile, their

belief systems, cultures, languages and ways of life continue to be threatened, sometimes even by extinction.

Increasingly, governments are recognizing these threats, and matching such recognition with action. From land

claims settlements and constitutional amendments to important symbolic actions such as apologies for past

treatment of indigenous peoples, governments around the world are making important steps towards addressing

indigenous peoples’ concerns.

In responding to the challenges they continue to face, indigenous peoples have engaged the international

community, calling for a Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and a permanent forum at the United

Nations that meets regularly to discuss indigenous peoples’ issues and make recommendations to the UN system

and beyond.

The United Nations has committed its unwavering support to a future where all indigenous peoples will enjoy

peace, human rights and well-being, and has responded to indigenous peoples’ demands, welcoming them as

partners. The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples was adopted in September 2007,

and the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues meets annually at UN Headquarters, bringing together indigenous

peoples, Member States, NGOs, UN agencies and other intergovernmental organizations.

As a joke, the kids in the neighborhood would ring his doorbell, then hide behind the bushes and gleefully snicker at him when he answered and found no one there. One evening last summer, James saw Mr. Gray standing outside on his porch. His clothes were wrinkled and his hat was torn. The neighborhood kids claimed that he had been kidnapped by spies after inventing a secret radar device. For a moment, the old man met Jimmy’s stare, and time seemed to stand still.

Carefully examine the conclusion of your essay. Is it the best conclusion it can be? Does it properly summarize the main subtopics of your essay? Does it state in one or two sentences the “so what” of your topic. If your topic was Abraham Lincoln, your essay shouldn’t be just about Abraham Lincoln. It should answer, “So what about Abraham Lincoln?” Take five or ten minutes, and looking only at that single paragraph, revise your conclusion.

I'm working on the same question and I was able to find this conclusion;

The main reason why Abraham Lincoln helped the union win the war was because he went from limited to total warfare. Meaning he did everything in his power to help win while being practical at the same time. Thinking about what people cared about opposed to what was best. Also he valued each state and doesn't want them losing their support towards the union and by thinking politically and militarily he was able to do so in a smart way.

Why there is glass ceiling in politics, economics and socio-cultural?

Answers

Answer:

The glass ceiling is a metaphor for the kinds of invisible barriers that prevent minority groups and certain demographics like women from achieving the highest positions in the corporate world or in the political ranks of power.

Explanation:

The glass ceiling refers to the invisible barrier that seems to prevent women and other minorities from achieving the highest positions of power in society, including in politics or in the business realms. Even today, most of the C-suite executives in the Fortune 500 companies for example are middle-aged white men.  Women are at a disadvantage for such positions because of other responsibilities to their families, for example. Women can be looked over for promotions and other accolades that are given to their male coworkers because of unspoken prejudices or biases about their skills and their dedication to their work.  Politics are similarly dominated by white men even in the United States to this day.
