physical, psychological, and language barrier to effective communication

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

Communication is deemed effective when the transfer of information from the sender is seamless and understood by the receiver such that the communicating parties continually telakes the position of being the receiver or sender and thus the essence of communication is met or fulfilled. Factors which impede effective communication are called communication barriers which may be physical such as noise, environmental designs which may affect communication, area and place restrictions and so on.

The psychological barriers include poor retention and forgetfulness, emotional stress or worry leading to being inattentive.

However, language barrier still seems to be the most challenging barrier to effective communication which results when communication is to be established between individuals who do not speak a common language. This usually makes establishing effective communication absolutely impossible.

In this excerpt from “The Red Shoes” by Hans Christian Anderson, who are the two minor characters?

There was once a pretty, delicate little girl, who was so poor that she had to go barefoot in summer and wear coarse wooden shoes in winter, which made her little instep quite red.

In the center of the village there lived an old shoemaker's wife. One day this good woman made, as well as she could, a little pair of shoes out of some strips of old red cloth. The shoes were clumsy enough, to be sure, but they fitted the little girl tolerably well, and anyway the woman's intention was kind. The little girl's name was Karen.

On the very day that Karen received the shoes, her mother was to be buried. They were not at all suitable for mourning, but she had no others, so she put them on her little bare feet and followed the poor plain coffin to its last resting place.

Just at that time a large, old-fashioned carriage happened to pass by, and the old lady who sat in it saw the little girl and pitied her.

"Give me the little girl," she said to the clergyman, "and I will take care of her."

The act I’ve chosen to act upon was give an unexpected compliment. Before I felt like saying what I said was that giving people compliments sometimes can make someone’s day because they might be having a bad day, doesn’t feel confident of themselves, feeling gender, or they just really needed it. They way I did my act of kindness was by going up to someone I don’t know and just complimenting them by saying something nice. The way this person reacted when I told them that, they felt happy and flattered after I complimented them. Finally, after it was completed, I understood why kindness matter. The way I felt was good because it’s always good to say something nice to someone because you never know what they’re going through. Last, but definitely not least! I think that kindness is really important because complimenting someone can make them feel all sorts of ways like: happy, flattered, admired, praised, etc.. and make sure to never say something mean cause a lot of people can take that seriously and can effect them a lot.

A Poison Tree
by William Blake

I was angry with my friend:
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.

And I watered it in fears
Night and morning with my tears,
And I sunned it with smiles
And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright,
And my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine,—

And into my garden stole
When the night had veiled the pole;
In the morning, glad, I see
My foe outstretched beneath the tree.
Question 1

Part A

What can be inferred about the cause of the speaker's wrath?

A. He is angry over an unresolved argument.
B. He lacks good communication skills.
C. He feels distraught over a childhood disagreement.
D. He is jealous over his foe's accomplishments.

Question 2

Part B

Which lines from the poem best support the answer in Part A?

A. "And into my garden stole / When the night had veiled the pole;"
B. "I was angry with my foe: / I told it not, my wrath did grow."
C. "And I sunned it with smiles / And with soft deceitful wiles."
D. "And I watered it in fears / Night and morning with my tears,"

Answers

Answer:

A. He is angry over an unresolved argument.

B. "I was angry with my foe: / I told it not, my wrath did grow."

Explanation:

The poem "A Poison Tree" by William Blake revolves around the speaker's unresolved anger. The poem presents two cases where the speaker deals with the anger in him, and what happens if it is repressed.

Part A-

The cause of the speaker's wrath seems to be the unresolved anger he has against a foe which only makes him angrier. On the other hand, the anger he had with a friend was resolved after he let the friend know about it.

Part B-

The lines that support the argument that the speaker's wrath is caused by the unresolved anger are: "I was angry with my foe: / I told it not, my wrath did grow." This shows that the more he represses the anger he had for the foe, the more his anger grew. And the lines go on revealing that he 'cultivated' the anger into an evil weapon that 'killed' his foe.

what is passive reading

Answers

Answer:

Passive reading is when a reader does technically read the words but absorbs next to nothing about what is written. Active readers begin reading with a desire to find out what is going to be said.

The difference between active and passive reading is your goal, the reason you are reading in the first place. In passive reading, your goal is to learn what the writer thinks about the topic or subject. In active reading, your goal is to learn what you think about the topic or subject.

Passive readers expect an author to do all the work, to motivate them and keep them interested. Active readers are self-motivated, and they take responsibility for arousing and maintaining their own interest in an author's topic. Passive readers read without thinking.

One such person was Alexander Fleming. Before 1928, when Fleming's smart and creative mind developed it, penicillin, a treatment for numerous infections, did not exist. As a young man, Fleming was very interested in the study of medicine. Under the direction of bacteriologist Almroth Wright, he started his research career in 1906 at St. Mary's Hospital in London, England. During World War I, Fleming dealt with injured troops while serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps. He discovered that the liquid antiseptics used to treat wounds had a significant negative impact on a person's capacity to combat bacterial infections. He therefore thought that wounds should be kept clean and dry rather than being treated with antiseptics. His suggestions were mainly ignored, though.Fleming came back to St. Mary's in 1918 and was appointed the department's assistant director. He made an astonishing finding regarding the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, which can result in serious human infections, ten years later, in September 1928. Fleming discovered an unfamiliar mold had grown around the bacteria after leaving it unattended in a petri dish.He was startled to learn through studying the mold that it was a form of antibiotica compound that can either kill or stop the growth of germs. Penicillin was given a name by him, and word of its therapeutic efficacy in treating bacterial infections quickly spread. After that, he was successful in stabilizing and purifying penicillin for use by the general population with the aid of scientists from the University of Oxford, Howard Florey and Ernst Chain.Penicillin's discovery changed medicine and made Alexander Fleming a hero. He was chosen as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1943, and a year later, he was knighted. For the discovery of penicillin and their contributions to medicine, Fleming, Chain, and Florey were given the Nobel Prize in 1945.Later in life, Sir Alexander Fleming published numerous publications in international medical and scientific journals on topics like immunology, chemotherapy, and bacteriology. Fleming passed away in London in 1955, but his legacy is still honored today.
